About Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity
The charity works alongside the NHS to support patients, families and staff across 13 hospitals in Bristol and Weston. Helping to fund projects and initiatives that go above and beyond what NHS funding alone can provide.
They support over 1.75 million patients in hospitals across the region, from Southmead Hospital to Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital. Each year, they invest millions to deliver meaningful, lasting change to support older patients, create healing environments. As well as funding life-changing treatments, equipment and innovation, and ensure everyone receives the best possible care for their needs.
Today, its funding focuses on four key areas: enabling healthcare for all, supporting older care, creating healing environments and innovating for change.
Through the generosity of its supporters, the charity helps fund projects ranging from life-changing treatments, specialist equipment and medical innovation to improvements that create more welcoming and comfortable environments for patients and their families.
Supporting a Cause Close to Home
Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity was nominated to receive the donation by Resapol’s Bristol Depot Ambassador, James Brown. Each year, Resapol employees are given the opportunity to nominate causes that are important to them and the communities surrounding the company’s depots and offices.
Explaining why Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity was selected, James Brown said:
“I chose to nominate Bristol Against Cancer because my son, Gabriel, was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma when he was 2 years old. He spent 18 months pretty much living in Bristol Children’s Hospital and I don’t think he would be with us today (he’s 18 now) if it wasn’t for the incredible care and support that we all received. Any opportunity I get to give back I take it as the NHS is something we should all be grateful for.”
Making a Difference to Patients and Families
The £1,000 donation from the Resapol Foundation will help Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity fund peer support groups for teenage and young adult cancer patients. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for young people aged 16 to 25 to connect with others who truly understand the challenges of a cancer diagnosis and treatment journey.
“We were delighted to receive £1,000 from the Resapol Foundation. This generous donation will support initiatives at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, helping young cancer patients and their families during some of the most challenging times in their lives through dedicated peer support sessions.
Young people who have attended these sessions consistently tell us how they benefit their mental wellbeing. Without opportunities like these, many would never meet another young person going through a similar experience. The sessions provide a safe and supportive space where they can share experiences, build friendships and feel less isolated.
The support groups also enable parents and carers to connect with each another, offering mutual encouragement and understanding throughout their child’s treatment journey.Thanks to this donation, the Resapol Foundation is helping to improve the wellbeing of young patients and their families, ensuring they receive the support they need throughout their cancer journey.“
